A sense of one's self exists in relationship

The self can get knocked or injured when relationships or life events involving relationships, fail to meet our needs. This may occur in the present or as a result of events in our past.

Trauma, abuse and neglect and other harmful interactions from our environment or unfavourable life events can leave us with a sense of inner deadness or emptiness leading to feelings of being disconnected, with a lack of vitality or the feeling that 'something just isn't right'.

These feelings can come and go or may persist for an extended period of time.Sometimes it is difficult to make sense of the harm done as it can appear trivial, and yet it continues to prevent growth.

These issues can be worked through in the respectful, safe and confidential therapeutic relationship with a skilled and experienced therapist. A more robust sense of self can be developed leading to increases in self esteem, vitality, connectedness and wellbeing. Resilience can develop where one feels a sense of purpose or meaning, intimacy, wholeness, and belonging.

All therapists belong to professional bodies
and attend regular clinical supervision.
